"Welcome to my series of ‘Get Ready With Me' video. As I prepare to pierce my ear, get ready for work, and take a meal break at work, I'll be reflecting on the creation of my short film for my media studies class. This film tells the story of a girl who meets a guy in her friend group at the beginning of summer vacation, and their evolving relationship over the season."
Question #1: How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
One of the conventions I wanted to use in my film was the classic summer romance trope. This cliché is a staple of romantic comedies, evoking a sense of nostalgia and warmth. By incorporating this trope, I aimed to create a familiar and relatable story for my audience."
However, I also wanted to challenge this convention by adding a twist to the typical summer romance story. The guy's sudden departure at the end of the summer was intended to subvert expectations and add depth to the narrative. It serves as a reminder that not all summer romances have a fairy-tale ending."
"In terms of social representation, the film portrays a diverse friend group with varying interests and backgrounds. Each character is involved in different extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs, reflecting the diverse nature of social groups in high school."
As I reflect on the creation of my short film for my media studies class, I'm struck by the impact of the boy leaving the girl without warning. This pivotal moment in the film not only affects the characters but also represents broader social issues and group dynamics."
Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of storytelling and character development. I wanted the film to not only entertain but also resonate with viewers on a deeper level. The themes of love, friendship, and loss are universal, and I hope that viewers can see themselves reflected in the characters and their experiences."
Filming at locations like the beach and the park added to the authenticity of the story. The beach symbolized freedom and adventure, while the park provided a sense of nostalgia and comfort. These locations helped create a visually appealing and emotionally resonant film."

Question #2: How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
in my short film, I aimed to engage audiences through relatable characters, emotional storytelling, and visually appealing cinematography. I wanted to create a film that would resonate with viewers and spark conversations about love, loss, and resilience."
One of the ways my film engages with audiences is through its portrayal of realistic and relatable characters. The girl and the boy are not perfect—they have flaws and vulnerabilities, making them more human and easier for viewers to connect with
The emotional depth of the story is another aspect that engages audiences. By depicting the girl's journey of heartbreak and healing, the film evokes empathy and understanding from viewers who may have experienced similar situations in their own lives
Furthermore, the film's exploration of themes such as friendship, love, and resilience resonates with a wide range of audiences. These universal themes make the film relevant and relatable to viewers of all ages and backgrounds.
As for distribution, my film could be distributed as a real media text through various platforms and channels. It could be screened at film festivals to reach a wider audience and gain recognition in the filmmaking community.

Question #3: How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Throughout the course of this project, my production skills have undergone significant development, from initial challenges with scheduling and coordination to mastering the art of filming in diverse locations and conditions.
At the outset, one of the biggest challenges we faced was coordinating schedules. With everyone involved in extracurricular activities and other commitments, finding mutually available times for filming was no easy feat. However, we quickly learned the importance of effective communication and organization in overcoming this hurdle.
Organization became key to our success. We created detailed schedules and timelines, making sure to account for everyone's availability and the specific requirements of each scene. This meticulous planning ensured that we made the most of our filming sessions, maximizing our productivity and creativity
Filming at the beach presented its own set of challenges. We had to contend with changing tides, unpredictable weather, and varying light conditions. However, these challenges also pushed us to think creatively and adapt quickly to ensure we captured the essence of each scene.
The park offered a different set of challenges and opportunities. We filmed both during the day and at night, utilizing the park's natural beauty and lighting to create contrasting moods and atmospheres. This experience helped us understand the importance of lighting and composition in storytelling.
These diverse settings allowed us to experiment with different filming techniques and styles, further expanding our creative horizons. Looking back, I can see how much my production skills have developed throughout this project. From mastering the art of scheduling and organization to adapting to different filming environments and conditions, this project has been a valuable learning experience that has prepared me for future filmmaking endeavors
Question #4: How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project?
Integrating various technologies, including software, hardware, and online tools, was a transformative experience that pushed the boundaries of our filmmaking skills. Before this course, we had no familiarity with editing software or understanding the quality of different cameras. However, through experimentation and research, we were able to harness the power of technology to enhance our film.
One of the most significant technological advancements we integrated into our project was the use of drones. We realized that using drones to capture overhead shots of the beach would add a cinematic and dynamic element to our film. After researching and learning how to operate the drones safely and legally, we were able to capture breathtaking footage that set the stage for our film's introduction.
In addition to drones, we utilized various versions of iPhones for filming. We found that different versions of iPhones offered different qualities of footage, and we experimented with each to find the best fit for our project. We ultimately chose the iPhone 15 Pro Max, as it offered 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, providing the best quality footage for our film
To further enhance our editing capabilities, we used a combination of software, including Apple's standard editing software and CapCut. Apple's standard editing software, which is programmed in iPhones, provided basic editing tools that were easy to use and allowed us to make quick edits on the go. CapCut, on the other hand, offered more advanced editing features and made the editing process more efficient and streamlined
One of the most challenging aspects of the project was transferring between iPhones and ensuring consistency in the footage quality. We had to learn how to properly transfer and manage the footage to maintain the overall look and feel of the film. This process required careful attention to detail and effective communication among team members.
Another important aspect of our project was finding royalty-free music online. We wanted to enhance the emotional impact of our film with the right soundtrack, and we found several websites that offered a wide range of music options for free. This not only added depth to our film but also ensured that we were respecting copyright laws
Overall, integrating technologies in our project was a rewarding experience that allowed us to push the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. From capturing breathtaking aerial shots with drones to editing footage with advanced software, technology was at the core of our creative process and helped us achieve our vision for the film.
